　　本剧集讲述香港海关特遣队队员在事业上和生活中的点滴故事。在事业上独立果敢的海关特遣队监督吕馥明（汪明荃饰）已投身海关二十多载，年过五十岁的她仍对爱执着，相信至死不渝的爱情存在。出版集团主席涂令山（李修贤饰）感情专一内敛，向不信情。海关督察林志刚（王喜饰）自小受父亲严厉鞭策，性格急进。立志投身海关的特遣队新成员冯满芬（宣萱饰），做事勇往直前，对人生充满理想。在事业上，这些特遣队精英们屡立奇功，而在情感道路上，他们的生活也遭遇了爱的惊涛骇浪。

　　特技演员程郎（黎明 饰）幼时与父亲程孝全（刘兆铭 饰）不和，负气去了台湾独自生活，妹妹程虹（杨美仪 饰）借来台湾找老同学沈文薏（周海媚 饰）的机会想让哥哥回香港。在妹妹的说动下，老婆跑路独自带着儿子的程郎终于回到了香港，回家后的程郎重逢童年伙伴高天俊（温兆伦 饰），并很快与一名越南难民展翘（邵美琪 饰）发展出刻骨铭心的恋情，可展翘最终选择离开香港，两人幸好失落之余沈文薏的出现让程郎看到一丝曙光。与此同时，程郎不知道妹妹已经爱上了高天俊，而高天俊却爱着文薏，被横刀夺爱的他渐渐开展了一系列丧心病狂的报复手段，一团乱麻之际展翘回港，程郎陷入了剪不断理还乱的三角关系中。
